Mittal Steel USA Riverdale is seeking talented, highly motivated engineers for employment.   Mittal Steel is the largest steel company in the world with steelmaking facilities in 14 countries employing 175,000 people worldwide.  

Mittal Steel USA Riverdale is a steelmaking facility located in Riverdale Illinois, about 30 minutes south of downtown Chicago.   The Riverdale facility is unique in several ways.  

• Riverdale is unique in that it is one of the only steelmaking facilities in the world that uses a Basic Oxygen Process coupled with a Compact Strip Process (CSP - Thin Slab Caster and Hot Mill).  
• Riverdale produces some of the most exotic steel in the United States.   Steel grades range from low carbon sheet steel to high carbon and high alloy grades for specialty applications.

Riverdale encourages innovation, experimentation and promotes swift implementation of improvements.   The facility owns analytical equipment to be used as a resource by all engineers.   This equipment encompasses X-Ray Fluorescence, Optical Emission Spectrometry, Scanning Electron Microscope and Optical Microscopes for a variety of problem solving exercises.   Riverdale has excellent data gathering systems for thorough data analysis.   Mittal Steel USA Riverdale is an organization that truly encourages a sense of ownership and creativity to allow engineers to grow both technically and professionally.

Riverdale is seeking to fill two engineer positions, BOF Process Engineer and Hot Strip Mill Engineer.   General Job descriptions and contact information are listed on the next page.

BOF Process Engineer Functions (Metallurgical or Chemical Engineer Preferred)

• In general, this position involves analysis of process variables related to basic oxygen furnace steelmaking to improve productivity, steel quality and overall consistency.
• A strong desire to solve problems is a fundamental requirement.
• This position will require a good understanding of thermodynamics with extensive use of mass and energy balances.   Phase diagram knowledge is beneficial.   Statistical analysis techniques will be necessary.
• Must assist in developing technical and non-technical training programs to improve workforce knowledge.  
• Individuals must be able to clearly communicate through both written and verbal means.
• A desire to become integrated in the process and lead problem solving teams is imperative.

Hot Strip Mill Engineer (Metallurgical Engineer Preferred)

• In general, this position involves analysis of process variables related to casting and hot rolling of steel to improve productivity, steel quality and overall consistency through the hot mill.
• A strong desire to solve problems is a fundamental requirement.
• This position will require a good understanding of physical metallurgy, thermodynamics and general mechanical knowledge.   Statistical analysis techniques will be necessary.
• Must assist in developing technical and non-technical training programs to improve workforce knowledge.  
• Individuals must be able to clearly communicate through both written and verbal means.
• A desire to become integrated in the process and lead problem solving teams is necessary.
• The position will require interaction with the Mittal Steel USA sales representatives and Mittal Steel USA Riverdale customers regarding quality issues, steel specifications and process improvements.
