Special Metals Corporation, the world’s leading producer of nickel-base alloys, has requirements for Product Engineers in the Quality and Technology Department in Huntington, West Virginia. The alloys manufactured by Special Metals are used in demanding applications in a wide variety of industries including aerospace, power and pollution control, oil and gas, thermal processing, marine, and many other types of service. Special Metals is seeking materials engineers for several process metallurgy and product engineer positions presently open at three of its manufacturing locations. The positions we have open cover a range of technical fields as well as several geographic locations.  We are looking for an engineer for our melting group in New Hartford, New York; a forging engineer for the Dunkirk, New York, and product engineers for positions at both Huntington and New Hartford.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Metallurgy/Materials Science or a related field.
  • Experience and interest in process metallurgy will be beneficial.
  • The positions require working in a production mill environment to improve products and solve quality problems.
  • Experience with nickel-based alloys is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of statistical problem solving techniques and experience with statistical software is also desired.

The successful candidate will

  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing of nickel-base alloy products;
  • Be accountable for all technical factors affecting material quality, properties, and product yield;
  • Conduct, lead and support continuous improvement projects;
  • Provide support to Sales and customers as needed.

Job Requirements

The Senior Lead Engineer should be a Materials Expert and will be responsible for providing comprehensive technical assessment of materials as applied in sub sea mechanical design. This includes providing analyses in the area of corrosion, metallurgy, and other material robustness. The successful candidate will need to work in a team environment, provide analyses and make presentations of such findings to customers, his teammates and senior management.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive technical assessments in the area of materials as applied to the sub sea environment
  • Provide test procedures and test criteria for accelerated life testing of materials.
  • Serve as the technical liaison with customer(s) and teammates in regards to materials, such as metals, polymers, adhesives, etc.

Education/Experience

M.S. with a minimum of 6 years experience/B.S. with a minimum of 8 years experience. A degree in Physics or Materials is a plus. A higher degree is a plus. Experience in applied materials science as used in engineering applications (e.g. under sea applications):

Other Job Requirements
