ï Prof. Ryan Tweney  (Dept. of Psychology, Bowling Green State University) ìExperimental Ethnography and the Epistemology of Historical Cognitive Replication.î April 22, 2005.  Hosted by the VT Dept. of STS.  Co-sponsored by the VT Dept of Psychology.

In recent years, a number of investigators have conducted replications of historically significant scientific experiments. This research has enlarged our knowledge of the cognitive underpinnings of scientific thinking, and raises many questions about the role of "experimental ethnography" in the understanding of science. The talk will briefly review some of this research, centering upon my own work on the replication of Michael Faraday's (1791-1867) research on the colors of gold. Such experimental ethnographies rely upon an integration of cognitive anthropology and cognitive psychology, with implications for the cognitive scientific understanding of epistemological systems.
