2007
For the third consecutive year, the Materials Engineering Professional Societies (MEPS) - has received an Outstanding Chapter Award from the national Materials Advantage organization. The award was presented to students at the 2007 MS&T Conference in Detroit, 16-20 September 2007.

US News & World Reports ranks the MSE undergraduate program 16th, and the graduate program 31st, among U.S. materials programs in the 2008 editions of their "Best Colleges" series.
2006
For the second year in a row, the Materials Engineering Professional Societies (MEPS) - an umbrella student organization comprised of Virginia Tech student chapters of ASM, TMS, ACerS, MRS, IMAPS, and AFS, wins a highly competitive Outstanding Chapter Award from the national Materials Advantage organization. The award was presented to students at the 2006 MS&T Conference in Cinncinati, 15-19 October 2006.

For the third straight year, the Materials Engineering Professional Societies (MEPS) took Overall First Place in Engineering- (E-) Week activities at Virginia Tech.   E-week is a series of interdepartmental competitions among the student chapters of various professional societies for the purpose of increasing the awareness of engineering, and is sponsored by the Student Engineering Council (SEC) of Virginia Tech.
