Warren W. Wolf was named Vice President, Owens Corning Science and Technology in 1998. In 2000, the title of Chief Scientist was added. Wolf joined Owens Corning in 1968 as a senior scientist at the company's Science and Technology Center in Granville, Ohio. Since he joined the company, Wolf was named supervisor of the Glass Research and Development Laboratory and later promoted to manager. In 1983, he was named a lab director. Wolf has been involved in directing a variety of activities, including new product and process research with special emphasis on insulation and composite materials. Other activities for Owens Corning included directing glass, polymer and metals research, as well as the analytical laboratories at Granville. He holds 15 patents in the areas of glass fiber process and composition and has three publications. Wolf was Co-editor of the 11th International Congress on Glass and has been a vice president of the American Ceramic Society serving in 1993-94 and in 1997-98. He is a member of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers and served as its president, 1994-1996. He is also a member of the International Commission on Glass and serves as an American delegate to that commission. He served on the external advisory board for the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University for a number of years. From 1995-1998 he was co-chair of the technical advisory group for the Governor's Ohio Science and Technology Council. He has also been honored as a distinguished alumnus of the College of Engineering at Ohio State and as a Fellow of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State. Wolf retired in 2001 and has a consulting business. Currently he has a contract with the USDOE, Office of Industrial Technology, to provide consulting to the US glass industry. .He is involved with a number of venture and entrepreneurial groups in the Columbus, Ohio area and is a member of the Board of the American Ceramic Society. Wolf also hold the position of Chief Scientist Emeritus at Owens Corning.
