The Materials Engineering Professional Societies (MEPS) sponsored an adventure to Westinghouse Savannah River company last November. The tour of this facility was made possible by Dr. George Wicks (far left, kneeling), who is a Senior Advisory Scientist for Westinghouse. He is also a member of the MSE Advisory Board at Virginia Tech. |

The group touredthe robotics facilities, where they met the Westinghouse team that placed among the top competitors in the 2003 Battle Bots competitions. |

The tour also included a special glimpse into the Defense Waste Processing Facility that handles remediation of high-level nuclear waste products by incorporating them in a stable glass matrix cast into stainless steel canisters. |  |
